. Hold the key down. Select the 'GO' menu at top of screen. Click on 'Library' ( this shows the current user's library files, normally hidden by default in OS 10.8). Select the 'Preferences' folder and scroll down to files shown in the following screen shot: You can delete preference files safely, they will 'remake' themselves when the program restarts - which gives you a fresh start in programs on the Mac. Also- in the same Library folder there is a folder called 'Saved States'. Look in there and delete any Google Earth related files.
Google Earth has literally changed the way we look at our own planet. Fly pretty much anywhere you can think of to view satellite imagery, maps, terrain, 3D buildings, the list goes on. Recent additions include galaxies in outer space, canyons of the ocean, art galleries and ski runs. Just a thought. I had problems when I went from 10.8 to 10.9 ( without doing a clean install) Doing the above solved the problem. Thanks so much for posting your solution! This will be a big help to a lot of very frustrated people. It's people like you that make this forum so useful. I don't have those particular plugins, so my Google Earth wasn't having the problems as the people in this thread. There are so many variables that can affect any one program.
Obviously you did some really good thinking here, and it is much appreciated. If anyone else gets a solution by removing these plugins, please post it!
We're all in this to help each other. Thewind, 18:15 น. I was able to get into Library and went in to Internet Plug Ins the files you lister were not there.
I had plug-ins listed but nothing referring to fb or google earth. It is such a disappointment not being able to get google earth.
If you get more info on the same problem you had before I would like to know. I am having the same problem you had after installing Yosemite.
My Mac version is now OS X Yosemite version 10.10 everything else is working well. Thanks for the post Mary Scoglio 2/11/2014, 20:23 น.
I have to point out, removing all the plugins is not really a solution. Some of them belong to the operating system, and others belong to desirable software. It doesn't help if no one is going to move past that as the proposed solution. The obsession with this answer, above all else, doesn't solve anything. An app like Google Earth shouldn't be colliding with other plugins, particularly any that belong to the operating system (since everyone is going to have them already).
What's needed is to repair Google Earth do it doesn't conflict with them. Google Earth updated automatically on my wife's computer via a dialogue pane.
I've never seen that before with Google Earth. This didn't occur on my computer. I was checking mapping updates when GE crashed. Never did that before. After that the application crashed immediately upon startup.
Investigated and found this thread. Before deleting anything, I manually downloaded the latest version of GE. Same immediate crash. So I restarted the computer as a test and problem resolved. GE boots and is stable.
Looking at historical imagery caused the initial crash. That function is stable now. IMac 27' Retina and Yosemite 10.10.3. Paul Kunkel 7/6/2015, 15:51 น. There have been a number of solutions to this problem, and for me all are temporary. From both the user and system libraries, I've deleted the internet plugins, the preferences files, the cache files.reinstall Google Earth Pro, and it works for a bit. After a few times opening the application the problem returns, and I have to go back through and delete all the preferences, cache, etc.
And reinstall the application. I've done this several times now. The internet plugins files have never appeared again, so it must be the preferences and/or cache files. 'MyPlaces' folder doesn't seem to be the problem as the behavior is the same whether I use it or not. For now, I just can't use GEP anymore except on a separate windows machine.
